Tryouts are conducted on Mondays & Wednesdays from 530 to 6 pm at the Chapparel High School located at the corner of Winchester and Nicolas RD.  Registration requires a $55 annual fee to Southern California Swimming, a $50 annual fee per family to Temecula Swim Club and monthly dues (determined by group level).  You must bring a birth certificate at time of try outs/sign ups.

You don't have to be a competitive swimmer to join the team.  You will learn the basic strokes in a group environment among swimmers with similar capabilities.

TMEC Philosophy

The TMEC program is committed to exposing our athletes to life skills in addition to the swimming skills that will serve them far beyond the realm of competitive swimming.  The concepts of fair play, respect for self and others, the development of a productive work ethic, and accountability for one's actions are interwoven into all aspects of the program.  The goal is to teach and develop these traits so that they become a part of everyday behavior.

TMEC has always and will continue to focus on developing proper swimming technique. The results of our teaching strategy can be seen in the performance of our athletes. Our objective is to develop an environment where all athletes are provided with the opportunities necessary to reach their individual goals of success as a competitive swimmer.

TMEC uses the method of group progression.  Swimmers will move through a three stage progression categorized as Stroke and Competition Readiness School, Competitive Training and Senior Level Training.

  • Stroke and Competition Readiness School is designed to introduce new skills as swimmers are ready. It also prevents swimmers from competing in strokes or events before proper techniques have been developed.
  • Competitive Training groups are designed for athletes to develop their competitive skills, work ethic and goals.
  • Senior Level Training groups are designed for athletes to develop the work habits and techniques needed for senior level competition.

The seven schools are Streamline, Kick, Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Turns. All Stroke Schools will practice five days a week but daily attendance will not be required. Be aware, however, that swimmers progress much faster when they swim more often. Streamline, Kick, Free, and Back Schools will swim 30 minutes with a specific goal for each practice.  Breast, Fly and Turn Schools will swim 45 minutes.

For a list of requirements for advancing from group to group click here  Swimmers just coming out of Turn School will be put into the Copper Group.Senior Level Training groups will be 9-10 Senior Development, 11-up Senior Development and Senior Level. Entry to these groups will be by coach selection and will require additional commitment.

Home Team vs. Travel Team

Home Team

The Home Team will be made up of all the swimmers that have not yet achieved their Red standards (B times).  The purpose of the home meets is to compete in order to achieve that standard time.  Once you have achieved that standard you can compete at the travel meets.

Travel Team

The Travel Team will be made up of swimmers that have made their Red standards.  The goal for the swimmers on the travel team is to achieve Blue, AA and JO standards.  Once you have achieved your standard time you will be invited to the championship swim meets.
